Electrophoresis

Electrophoresis, which is more correctly called ionophoresis, is based on the effect of an electric current capable of splitting chemicals into ions. The drug is impregnated with a cloth, which is placed under the plates of electrodes with opposite charges. When positively and negatively charged electrodes – the anode and cathode – are applied, an electric field is created in the treated area, due to which the medicinal compositions break down into small components and penetrate through the skin into the deep layers, where they form a depot. Due to this reserve, the long-term effect of the procedure is carried out.

When electrophoresis is chosen:

  • during the rehabilitation period after surgery:
  • as well as phonophoresis, in ENT diseases;
  • in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • for dermatological problems;
  • in case of eye disease;
  • in dentistry;

Contraindications

  • inflammatory processes at the stage of exacerbation, high fever;
  • skin diseases, cuts or wounds in the place where the current affects;
  • tumors;
  • poor blood clotting;
  • severe form of bronchial asthma;
  • the presence of a pacemaker and the intolerance of the procedure itself.

You can consult your doctor about contraindications and side effects.
